Does Your Cat Keep On Returning To A Certain Spot To Spray?

Since spraying’s purpose is marking a spot with the scent of urine, you should not be surprised to see your pet mark a cleaned-up spot again.  Merely cleaning the spot does not do much to minimize the spraying behavior.

Commercial products (like Feliway®) that contain artificial cheek gland scents have been proven effective in minimizing urine marking in some cats.  If sprayed on certain spots where your pet has sprayed or may spray on, these products might minimize the probability of more spraying in these spots.  Using these cat facial pheromones might encourage marking with cheek glands (bunting) instead of urine spraying.  These come in the form of room diffusers that could cover around 700 sq. ft. making them useful if cats mark multiple spots.  There are also spray forms that can be applied directly at spots where your pet sprays.  These products have calming effects on some cats when they are used in new environments such as veterinary clinics and in new carriers or cages to help with acclimating the animal.
