Teaching Your Puppy to Handle Being Alone: Practice Makes Perfect

As a pet parent, it’s natural to want to bring your puppy everywhere you go or to want to be with your puppy all the time. But eventually, there will be times in the future that you will have to leave your puppy alone in the house such as when you need to do errands, go to work, etc.

So, training your puppy to be alone is a very important skill in your pet’s growing phase. This requires a lot of time, dedication, patience, and effort just like all other skills training that you want your puppy to learn. There may be times that it may seem challenging, you just have to keep at it and be consistent. Through practice, your puppy will eventually learn that you always come back.

Initially, you will have to let your puppy get used to being alone even when you are home. Then, gradually move on to leaving your puppy for a longer time, until such time that you are confident you can leave your puppy without him feeling stressed or anxious from being separated from you.

The end goal is to raise your puppy into a dog that is comfortable, relaxed, and secure both with you and when left alone for some periods.
