Collars For Cat Identification

Cat collars that have tags could also be utilized to identify pet cats.  These collars could have contact information through affixed tags or small capsule attachments that have the information enclosed within.

There are even cats who wear collars that function as “keys” to their own home’s cat flaps where identification can be attached.  Or the identification microchip itself might function as a cat flap key too.

A lot of cat owners like having visual identification methods as an addition and as a backup to microchips.  If a pet cat becomes a road fatality, the body might not be inspected for these microchips, but kind people may take the pet collar so that they can contact the owner and deliver the news.

If this is a perfect world, pet cats should not have collars because of certain risks.  Since cats are inherently curious creatures, they often get themselves in tight spaces or dangerous situations, and their collars could get caught on fences, branches, or even indoor items, possibly choking or injuring the pet.  Cats could also get their legs through loose collars, causing injuries under their front legs.  These injuries could become critical if not attended to right away.

Selecting the proper collars (safety collars that snap open in case of entanglement) and fitting these collars properly could reduce these risks.

Collars have their advantages too.  They are instantly recognizable that the cat is a pet and might have identification affixed to them.  However, they could also be easily removed if not fitted or chosen properly.  Improperly chosen or fitted collards could become a danger or discomfort to the cat too.  These identifying tags/disks/capsules and collars are, however, quite affordable and therefore easy to replace.
