Because most people think cats are low-maintenance and independent, some also make the mistake of thinking that they don’t need that much attention.
Cats are very affectionate and they also enjoy attention, human affection, and petting. Therefore, adopting a cat means you are prepared to share around 20-30 minutes of your day with your new feline companion. How do you know if you are spending enough time with your pet? Here are a few things you should watch out for:
Destructive Behavior
Your cat may resort to destructive behavior when it craves attention, is bored, or needs enrichment or stimulation. This may be manifested by your cat by:
- Knocking items off of tables
- Scratching furniture
- Chewing house plants
- Jumping up to be at your level
- Making inhibited bites
Contact
Your cat will try to physically reach out to you when she craves your affection. She may do any of the following to get your attention:
- Pawing at your leg or arms
- Curling up beside you or on your lap
- Sit on your book or laptop or gets in the way of what you are watching
- Rubbing its face against you
