The hairs of Malinois dogs are short, straight, and hard. They have a thick undercoat and hard topcoat that help them become weather resistant. With that said, Belgian Malinoises were made to be able to work outside regardless of the condition. It’s also noticeable that the hairs around their neck are slightly longer, which makes them look like a mane.
The most common colors of the coat are the shades of fawn and mahogany. They have black masks, ears, and hair tips. Fawn Malinoises may have some traces of white on their toes’ tips, as well as on their chest.
Belgian Malinoises have a short and smooth coat, so in general, grooming these dogs isn’t too much of a hassle. During your weekly brushing routine, it’s advisable to use firm bristle brushes. Bathe your dog only if needed. Although these dogs shed all the time, heavy shedding usually occurs in the fall and spring.
If you notice any signs of infection, parasites, and other skin and hair coat problems, it is a good idea to make an appointment with your veterinary hospital Derby.
