Feeding Small Pets

Rabbits, cavies, and chinchillas’ diets must be 75% hay, as its fibers help with weight and dental maintenance. Hay comes in orchards, oat grass, and timothy— what’s best depends on the particular pet you have. It’s best to get help from a vet or other experts.

Meanwhile, the other 20% of their diet must be veggies. Many animals love to eat salad but aim to feed them a small amount every 2 days— you may use kale, mustard, and other dark and leafy greens. The remaining 5% must consist of banana, melon, or papaya to be given weekly. After eating, remove any excess food every 4 hours to keep their weight healthy.

You may also use pellet foods, which balance out their hay/produce intake. Be sure it’s fortified to ensure balanced nutrition and regulated calories. Also, rodents are fond of gnawing, which you may satisfy with treat sticks/chews for healthier teeth. Mineral wheels will also help you give them vital nutrients.
