In general, guinea pigs are good at socializing— they enjoy bonding with their owners. Nevertheless, they need to have a guinea pig buddy, too, especially when you’re occupied. If you worry about having an uncontrollable cavy population at home, get two similar-breed cavies— preferably females (although males can also get along if they’ve been friends since youth). But regardless of their gender, cavies must be introduced in a secure, open space before confining them. The best news is that having two cavies won’t cost a lot more than keeping one.
Their diet must consist of a daily supply of pellets, plus an ample amount of timothy grass available in their cage at all times. Replace their water daily, and give them Vitamin C supplements to make up for their lack of it— their bodies can’t produce this compound by themselves.
