Grooming Short, Medium, and Long Double Hair Coats Of Dogs

Double-coated dog breeds tend to shed their undercoat seasonally. While all double-coated dog breeds have varying lengths and types of coats, all of them need regular brushing that goes through the undercoat to the skin. This means brushing their hair at least thrice a week to ensure their fur is in good condition.

For dogs with longer coats, you rely on brushes or combs with long bristles. A pin brush is a good choice for these breeds because its bristles grip the undercoat and remove loose hairs without causing pain.

When brushing your dog’s fur, always start in the direction where the coat grows. Start by gently pulling down the brush until the end of his fur. If you have encountered a mat, try your best to detangle the hair slowly and carefully. Avoid rushing it when you untangle any knots and matted fur and make sure all of them are removed before brushing all your dog’s hair again.

Any skin and/or hair coat issue exhibited by your pet should warrant an appointment with your pet clinic Cypress, TX.
