Helping Your Dog Settle In

Are you planning on adopting a dog soon? Going to a new home is a very big change for pets, and one that can be quite overwhelming. You’ll need to be careful on the day you take him home, as you want to be sure to get things started on the right paw.

Before bringing your dog indoors, take him for a long walk around the block. This will help him get his bearings, so he has an idea of what terrain he’s in. It will also let him reset and kind of process the fact that something new is happening. When you get indoors, let him sniff around a bit, but don’t give him free rein right away.

You may want to keep him in a quiet room for a few days, especially if you have other pets. Your vet can give you information on introducing your furry friends. With cats, you’ll want to do this in stages. If you have another dog, let them meet before finalizing the adoption.

Of course, one of the first things you’ll want to do is take the pup to your veterinarian Frisco, TX.
