Kuvasz Dogs need to be with experienced, confident owners— someone who can understand the dog’s natural independence and earn their respect. These dogs also shed a lot, especially during the fall and spring. With that, weekly brushing (or every 2-3 days) should be done.
As with several large breeds, Kuvasz Dogs are prone to joint problems, especially when they exercise too much during the stage when they are still growing. Avoid pushing your dog to over-exercise— excessive jumping, frequently using the stairs— until they’re 2 years old.
These dogs are so protective and tend to be suspicious of unfamiliar people, so obedience training is necessary with these large canines. Although self-sufficient, Kuvasz Dogs don’t want to be away from the family. With that, they shouldn’t be housed in the yard. Keep in mind that no dog can actually do well and thrive living in a backyard.
