Having a pet bird can be a great source of joy and companionship. But like other pets, birds need regular checkups—including vaccinations.
Birds receive different types of vaccines based on their age and risk factors. Some vaccines protect against diseases that are specific to birds, while others protect against diseases that are common to many animals.
Birds do not require the same vaccinations as dogs and cats, but they do need certain vaccinations based on their age and species. Birds that are less than 8 weeks old should be given a series of injections called BIRD PULSORIX (Avian Poultry Vaccine). This vaccine protects against fowl pest disease, infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), avian metapneumovirus (AMV), and infectious laryngotracheitis virus (ILTV).
Birds older than 8 weeks old should also be vaccinated for Marek’s disease and psittacosis. Birds can also be vaccinated against Newcastle disease, fowl cholera, infectious bursal disease, and infectious laryngotracheitis. This vaccination is done in the fall and spring for the health of your flock.
