Kneading In Cats

Does your cat sometimes knead you when she’s on your lap? This is sometimes called making biscuits, and it’s as painful as it is cute. Why do kitties do this? Your cat isn’t trying to kill you: she’s actually showing affection.

This is something that kittens do when they are nursing, as it can help stimulate milk flow when nursing. So, it’s kind of a sign that your furry pal sees you as a parental figure. Don’t punish your kitty for this … even if it is pretty uncomfortable. Your better bet is to put a towel or throw a blanket down before settling in with your pet.

Of course, this isn’t the only odd way cats show affection. Purrs and snuggles are the most common options and of course the cutest. Your pet may also rub against your legs, try to trip you, sleep on top of you, yell at you, or even bite or scratch!

Be sure to ask your veterinarian Olympia, WA for tips and advice on keeping your cat happy and healthy.
