When well-socialized and bred, Old English Sheepdogs (OES) are trustworthy around kids. While some of them may herd and supervise toddlers, others may simply support a toddler who’s only learning how to walk. When properly bred, they’re generally kind and good-natured, making them excellent for the kids and the whole family. They have been even known as a “nanny,” given the role they assume in their family.
There are still exceptions to this, though. Poor breeding in OES often results in neurotic, ill-tempered behaviors. It’s best only transact with reputable breeders, and be sure to meet your prospective puppy’s parents. Leaving dogs alone with kids is highly discouraged, regardless of your dog’s temperament. Overall, good-natured English Sheepdogs are generally friendly with fellow pups, as well as other pets. Of course, it still takes proper training and socialization to help your dog grow up friendly with his furry friends.
