Why Do Cats “Mark” With Urine ?

Cats have different ways of claiming territories. The most common are releasing their unique scents all over the area and urinating in the area. Cats produce a unique scent on their paws, faces, tails, and cheeks. This scent also serves as their identity in the feline world. They release their scent in natural and subtle ways like scratching and head rubbing. Once a cat marks you with her scent, other cats should know that you are her owner.

The other way cats mark their territory is by urinating in it. It might be nasty, but that is just how it works for them. Often, cats mark their territories when they see potential danger or threat. Stress can also be a reason for this possessive behavior. If there has been any recent change in your home during the past few days, expect that your cat might manifest marking behaviors to cope with the change. Aside from locations, cats might also mark new home items due to insecurity.

Cats feel the emotions that humans feel too. Ensure that you show enough appreciation and affection to your cat so she won’t feel left behind whenever something new happens.
