Keeshond Coat Color And Grooming

Don’t let their looks fool you. Their coats may be thick and grandiose in appearance, but they’re not that hard to maintain. Don’t worry about getting a Keeshond just because you’re concerned about grooming them. Many attest that these pups aren’t high maintenance.

So what do you need to know about the coats of these medium-sized dogs that originate in Holland?

Keeshonds have a long outer coat (also known as a guard coat), a woolly undercoat, and a double top coat. Male and female Keeshonds both have manes, but those of the former are more generous.  They also have “trousers” in the hindquarters and plume tails.

The color of Keeshond’s coats shows a beautiful blend of gray, black, and cream. The dogs have facial marks – forming a set of spectacles.

Overall, the abundant coat of this breed doesn’t mat excessively. It just needs regular brushing twice a week. But these dogs may excessively shed once or twice a year. Their shedding may go on for about three weeks.

Excessive hair loss or other skin and hair coat issues should be brought to the attention of your veterinarian Tampa, FL.
