Turkish Angoras may be hard to convince to behave properly when an idea strikes them, but their charming nature will surely make up for that. This longhaired natural breed isn’t where angora sweaters come from, but their coats are equally beautiful and soft. These kitties are named after Ankara (formerly Angora) City in Turkey.
For hundreds of years, they’ve been souvenirs for visitors and invaders in the country, and many assume they’re the first longhaired kitties who arrive in Europe. Some claim that, from Turkey, they were brought by the Vikings over 1000 years ago.
When well-socialized around children, Angoras make excellent family pets, so long as you supervise your kids about the proper way of interacting with these cats— no pulling of the tails/fur. They get along with cat-friendly pups but be sure they know that he is in charge. Slow introduction under controlled circumstances is a must to help them get along.
