Temperament And Personality Of Dachshunds

As early as the 15th century, the Dachshund has already existed.. However, it was in Germany that the breed was developed and trained to hunt badgers. This is the reason why he got his name. In German, it means “badger dog.”

This dog is affectionate and friendly. He can have a good relationship with children with proper socialization, training, and introduction. However, it is still advisable to supervise children’s interaction with him, especially if they have no experience handling dogs.

Each type of Dachshund has remarkable characteristics that are more dominant than the other types. For example, another Dachshund, the wire-haired variant, is more outgoing than the long-haired variant, which is calmer than the former.

This dog is courageous but playful. When faced with a big opponent, he works his way and tries to defeat the one in front of him,  no matter his size. There are times when the Dachshund might show aggressive behaviors towards other pets and strangers, keep an eye on their movements when they are with them. This way, you can intervene immediately when the tension rises.

If you have any concerns about your pet’s health and/or behavior, make an appointment with an animal hospital San Diego, CA.
