Grooming Needs Of Scottish Deerhounds

Scottish Deerhound has a thick, wiry, and harsh coat ranging from three to four inches long. This type of coat helped protect the dog from rough terrains when he was still active hunting in Scottish Highlands. The dog’s hair on his belly, breast, and head is soft. The back of his legs has very minimal hair that can’t be considered feathering.

In the United States, a Scottish Deerhound dons a coat that shows a beautiful medley of silky and wiry. His coat is generally woolly that doesn’t shed dust or dirt.

What about the color of the dog’s coat? A Scottish Deerhound comes with a combination of a gray and dark blue coat. But he can also appear with the following hues:

  • Light gray
  • Red fawn
  • Sandy red
  • Yellow
  • Brindle
  • Dark gray

Don’t get surprised to see a Deerhound that only has a gray color throughout his body – with a minimal white hue on his toes and chest.

Any problem affecting your pet’s skin and/or hair coat should require a visit to your pet hospital Chesapeake, VA.
