Personality And Temperament Of The Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Originally developed to herd horses, cattle, and sheep, Pembroke Welsh Corgis are excellent working dogs. Their intelligence, docile demeanor and highly trainable make these dogs good at following orders and executing tasks. Today, only a few Pembrokes serve as working dogs because most are taken as family companions.

Pembrokes are playful, energetic, happy, and independent. They’re also a bit stubborn. Sometimes, they refuse to take commands, think for themselves, and do whatever pleases them. But don’t worry – Pembrokes also love to please their humans, especially during training sessions. Encourage Pembroke to do well in training and socialization by using food rewards. But control the amount you give the dog because he may overeat and become obese.

Apart from being good working dogs, Pembrokes may make excellent watchdogs. They’re aloof with intruders and strangers and alert their families whenever they sense a threat in their surroundings.
