Urine Spraying In Cats

Are you a cat lover? If yes, then you already know that cats have unique ways of doing different things, such as urine spraying.  This term is a form of marking territories or objects mostly done by adult felines. Some people also say that urine spraying by cats serves as a means for them to “talk” and communicate with other cats.

If you observe the daily lives of furry felines, you can see that the sense of smell plays a role in the routine of cats. It is normal for felines to smell and sniff the urine of their fellow cats. Thanks to the second organ for the smell of cats: The Jacobsen’s Organ or vomeronasal. This organ helps cats “taste” the odors surrounding them.

Where is this organ located? The vomeronasal is composed of small apertures located at the back of the front teeth of cats. These two apertures are connected to the nasal cavity. When your feline opens her mouth, she draws air into the apertures. The Flehmen response that depicts a grimaced facial expression is adopted as cats inhale.

If your pet’s spray marking behavior bothers you, it is a good idea to talk to your vet Bethel Acres, OK about it.
