Sneezing in Turtles

veterinary clinic Lexington, KY

Did you know that many animals and even reptiles sneeze, yawn or even cough? It doesn’t mean the same for all animals and reptiles though. If you notice your turtle sneezing or making coughing sounds then you should talk to your vet. While it could be a normal occurrence in dogs or cats, sneezing and coughing could indicate a respiratory infection in reptiles like the turtle. Occasional sneezing is fine, but when it’s throughout the day then it’s time to take a closer look at the causes. For instance, your vet may tell you to check the temperature of your turtle’s habitat. If the temperature is too cold this could be causing your turtle’s sneezing and coughing. These symptoms could also be the sign of a respiratory infection such as pneumonia and in this case your turtle will need immediate vet care. Bloodwork and x-rays may be required to determine a cause and recommend treatments. Consult with your veterinary clinic Lexington, KY.
