Jack Russell Terriers Have Boundless Energy

Jack Russell Terriers may display many ideal family companion qualities when given enough patience and time. Their long history in hunting makes them great jogging companions in adulthood, and active older kids can have them as happy, affectionate playmates. However, the Russell Terrier’s rambunctiousness may overwhelm younger children.

Their fearless personality often leads to harm, though. Also, these energetic dogs need more than just sedate walks— they need to jump, run, and fetch. With that, be sure to give them vigorous exercises for 30-45 minutes every day.

They’re excellent at escaping, too, so a well-fenced yard is necessary. Be sure they can’t jump over, dig under, and climb on it— take note that electronic fences won’t be enough to contain these dogs. In addition, you can’t trust them off-leash due to their prey drive. A leash is necessary when outside fenced areas. Lastly, the JRT naturally digs to look for prey, and be sure you prepare your garden for possible excavations.
